How to care for a wooden wick candle for optimal burning
Share
A wooden wick candle transforms an ordinary moment into a ritual: soft light, a gentle crackle, and a fragrance that gradually fills the room. A few simple steps will help you achieve a more even burn and preserve the quality of your scented candle.
For the first burn
The first burn sets the tone. Let the wax melt long enough for the surface to become liquid over a large part of the container. This step helps the candle burn more evenly during subsequent uses.
Always place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, textiles, and any flammable objects. Never leave it burning unattended.
Keep a short wooden wick
Before each new burn, carefully remove the blackened, brittle part of the wick. A short wooden wick promotes a more stable flame and limits residue. Avoid pulling hard on the wick: simply detach the thin charred portion when it is completely cold.
Avoid very long burning periods
A scented candle prefers regular burns rather than long sessions. Once the wax has melted well and the scent has had time to diffuse, extinguish the candle. Let it cool completely before moving or relighting it.
Choose the right location
Drafts can make the flame flicker and accelerate wax consumption. Place your candle in a calm spot, away from an open window, a fan, or a high-traffic area. Also, keep it out of reach of children and pets.
When the wax is almost gone
When little wax remains at the bottom of the container, discontinue use. The glass can then be cleaned and reused as a small pot, brush holder, or trinket dish. This naturally fits into a more sustainable approach to the scented object.
